Valentine’s Day x Third Love

Hey y’all! It has definitely been more than a while since I last posted here (oops!) Life has been busy to say the least with finishing my last semester at Texas State, graduating, and moving back to Houston. While this new chapter of my life has been nothing but busy, I am so excited for the future ahead. I am so thankful to my family and friends who have supported and guided me to where I am today, I would be nothing without their love.

Now that I’ve gone all mushy and gushy it seems appropriate to talk about my favorite holiday (although a tad bit controversial) VALENTINE’S DAY! The hopeless romantic in me just can’t help but love a day devoted to love. I like to take the standpoint that February 14th is not just for those with a significant other, I celebrate with family and friends!

With Valentine’s Day creeping upon us I know many of you have been planning outfits for dates nights and such. While I know I have a few pink and red pieces from my closet in mind, I’m reminded that the first and most important step to any out is what you wear underneath! Seriously. The right lingerie can make or break an ensemble. Not only will you avoid panty lines, bra straps, or any lumps or bumps (we’ve all got em) you will feel more put together. Nothing makes me feel like I can conquer the day like a sweet, feminine set of matching bra and panty.

Luckily for y’all I’ve teamed up with the fantastic Third Love company to bring to you a perfect way to find your Valentine’s Day look! Take the quiz below to see what bra personality suits you best. I’m the lace number, no surprise there.

Pretty in Pink

Hey Y’all!

By now it’s obvious that Target and I have a strong love affair. Target gives me beautiful new additions to my home and wardrobe and I give Target all my money. One thing I love about Target is that they do a wonderful job of keeping each collection fresh and ahead of the trends. Not to mention the designer collaborations such as the upcoming #LillyForTarget. That’s right, Lilly Pulitzer will be teaming up with Target. Quite possibly one of the most highly anticipated Target collaborations yet and for good reason. Check out their Instagram for a sneak peak of some of the items debuting. I know I’m already saving up for the massive dent I’m going to put into my bank account when that collection launches.

Surprisingly it had been some time since I shopped at Target (okay, maybe like 2 weeks but that’s beside the point) so I was thrilled to see that some of my favorite handbag crushes of the season had been marked to clearance! The gorgeous Merona collection featured designs that nodded to the ever so popular Celine handbags. Structured totes and crossbodys came complete with gorgeous hues and gold hardware. It was love at first sight. However, the release of this line and the holidays seemed to be timed perfectly. While I normally would’ve grabbed the bag the first time I laid my eyes on it, my Christmas list for family members persuaded me to say no.

This hot pink beauty seemed to be the perfect addition to my purse collection and when I saw the price marked down 50% I knew it was fate. I’m a strong believer in that if something is meant to be it will find its way and I do apply this to items I buy regularly. In an attempt to control my impulse purchases I started telling myself to sleep on the decision if I felt like I did not absolutely have to have the item right then. Sure enough, if I decided that I did indeed still want the item a few days later, and it was still available in store, then it was meant to be!

I love this little bag. It’s surprisingly roomy and has inside and outside pockets. My favorite feature (aside from the color) is the detachable shoulder strap which can be adjusted. I love when designers give you the option to use product in multiple ways. Now for the color… the hot pink is to die for! While it is bold it gives a feminine touch that is perfect for the upcoming spring and summer seasons. I can definitely see this purse making its way into a Valentine’s Day outfit!

As always, I’d love to hear about some of your recent Target steals!

The Merona purses are still on sale so go grab yours now!

Locks of Love

Hey Y’all!

With the start of the new year comes a new chapter and a chance to start over. What better way to step into 2015 than with a fresh look? I decided to take the plunge and chop my hair off into a long bob. I donated 10 inches of hair to the organization, Locks of Love. Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that donates hairpieces to children with any diagnosis resulting in long term hair loss. It’s a wonderful cause and great excuse to take on a new look! This is my second time donating to Locks of Love and certainly will not be my last.

It has been some time now since I have had an actual styled cut. For so many years I kept my hair long yet hardly ever styled it because it was so much to maintain. For those with long hair you understand the annoyance that comes with washing, blow drying, curling, etc. Seeing how adorable Lauren Conrad‘s long bob was gave me the courage to finally switch up my hairstyle.

The verdict is in and I LOVE it! I truly believe that anyone could pull off this cut. It provides an effortless chic look to any outfit. I feel as though I’ve moved away from the young beach waves and towards a more sophisticated adult look. An added bonus with this style is that it demands a fraction of the time that longer hair does. So if you’re feeling a new look for the new year, I say push aside any doubt you may have and go for it!

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the long bob fad!

The Capital City

Hey Y’all!

Recently I spent the day exploring nearby Austin with my dear friend Shelly of lifeoutsidetheshell. We spent our Sunday checking out street markets, listening to live music and we even squeezed in a trip to the Capital! Our weather here has been quite indecisive (per usual with Texas) which unfortunately means that it hasn’t felt like Christmas is a week away. That being said, I ignored my weather app and dressed for the holiday season regardless.

Shirt (on sale!) Vest (similar and on sale!) Purse

To me nothing says the holidays like glitzy jewels and luxurious fur. For my casual holiday inspired outfit I paired my favorite Christmas plaid shirt with a black faux fur vest and black leggings. I knew that we would be doing a lot of walking so I wanted to be comfortable too. Black leggings are a staple in my wardrobe because they can be dressed up or down while remaining comfortable and classic. I recently purchased the black faux fur vest from the boutique Runway Seven in Katy, Texas. I love that the vest is fitted and can be worn with so many outfits!

Ring (similar) Kendra Scott necklace, crystal statement necklace (similar)

I like for my accessories to have a theme that way they flow and tie together the ensemble. For this outfit’s theme I kept with the festive spirit and layered glitzy necklaces together. My Kendra Scott drusy stone necklace quickly became a favorite of mine along with my recently purchased crystal stone statement necklace. I love wearing them together to add detail and depth to my accessories for the day. For my arm party I stacked together simple gold and black roll on bracelets and a gold bow ring. My shoes are an old Target find that feature a silver holographic pattern. My purse is my go-to shopping tote, the Longchamp Le Pliage tote in size medium.

Clutch City

Hey Y’all!

Of the many things that I love about Houston our sports teams rank in my top 3. Yes, I know what y’all are thinking.. the Texans? The Rockets? The Astros?! Yep, despite their records I still hold my teams close to my heart. I highly recommend going to a Houston game if you ever get the chance. I can promise that despite the final score you’ll have a blast. It being Houston, I can also promise that you’ll get to eat some delicious food at the games too. The Houston Rockets won back-to-back world championships in 1994 and 1995. Their ability to pull off “clutch” wins appropriately gave Houston the nickname Clutch City. So why am I talking sports on my style blog?

The answer is these beauties right here. Once again, I was at Francesca’s when I stumbled across these chic clutches. Their vibrant hues and bead work make them the perfect accessory. Not only are they stylish but they’re versatile too! Each has its own dainty gold chain that tucks inside neatly for transition from cross body to clutch. Any multipurpose item that I can add to my wardrobe is a winner in my eyes.

Both purses are large enough to hold the going out essentials: Phone, ID/credit cards and lipstick. I’ll admit that if you showed me these purse a few years ago I would have thought they were cute but never would have bought or worn them. It took me some time and a few trips to Houston’s midtown to come to the realization that the less you bring out with you the better. Take my word on that life lesson.

While these purses are versatile and just the right size, my absolute favorite part has to be their detailing! Neon details are huge right now and when done right they can add just the right amount of flare to an outfit. Their colors can also be transitioned throughout seasons for an added bonus. Did I mention they were on sale? Hurry on over to Francesca’s to pick up your own.

As always, I’d love to hear how you style your favorite clutch!
